How to turn on HTTPS for your website
What the problem is
HTTPS encrypts the connection between visitors and your website and shows the padlock in the browser's address bar. Without it, browsers mark your site as “Not secure”.
Why it matters for AI search
Browsers, search engines and AI search tools treat sites without HTTPS as less trustworthy. It's also the first thing a careful customer notices.
How to fix it
- Turn on a security (SSL/TLS) certificate in your hosting control panel. Most hosts include one free.
- Redirect every
http://address to the samehttps://address, so there's only one version of each page. - Update links in your site settings, Google Business Profile and social profiles to use
https://.
On your site builder
Wix
- Wix sites get HTTPS automatically once a domain is connected. If yours doesn't, check the domain's connection in your Wix dashboard under Domains.
Squarespace
- Squarespace includes a free SSL certificate. Check the SSL settings in your site's Settings and make sure secure connections are on.
WordPress
- Turn on the free certificate in your host's control panel, then in Settings → General set both WordPress Address and Site Address to start with
https://.
Shopify
- Shopify includes SSL for connected domains. If a domain shows as not secure, check its status under Settings → Domains.
Menus change from time to time. If a setting has moved, your site builder's help pages will have the current steps.
How to check it's fixed
- Open your site with
http://at the start and make sure it switches tohttps://. - Run the free check on bogl.ai again. Results are kept for 24 hours, so if you checked the same site earlier today you'll see the earlier result; check again tomorrow.
